#046/365: Air traffic.

The ‘airborne’ traffic at night was actually the light trail of moving buses.  A closed down aperture and long exposure created this effect.

  1. Do you mind me asking what your settings were for this particular shot? I’ve wanted/tried to get photos like this and I epicly fail 😦 If you would rather not I completely understand 😉 Love the composition of this shot and everything just works about it, nicely done!

  2. Here are the settings: Nikkor 50mm/1.8G, ISO 200, f11, 6 sec.

The key is to keep your shutter open until the lines are formed but not too long after the vehicles are gone. Let me know how it works for you. As for the ‘star burst’, closing down the aperture makes the star bursts. It may be different for your lens, you may have to run a few tests.

  3. Aha! So I think I was always keeping my aperture low because my amateur photog brain was saying…night-time, so you need to let in as much light as possible….and I would still have a long ss with high ISO, thus making for very terrible and bright and nasty outcome. Yes you may laugh at me I give you permission 😉
Thanks!! I really appreciate the tips and help…can’t wait to try it 🙂
